"Let it be one cheerful rational voice amidst the din of mourners and polemics." Ralph Waldo Emerson, 1840.
A Brit-in-Helsinki's blog about global politics, climbing, cycling, things that annoy me and other bits of life. But not necessarily in that order.
Interesting blog post - but what about the bouldering?
How about:
On Sunday I finally gave in to years of pestering and went the bouldering wall. I had to do it. I'd agreed as compensation last winter after dragging Tony out to go ice climbing at -20 oC to go to the bouldering wall. My friends had bought me a voucher for the bouldering wall as part of my PhD gift and I'd already used the (somewhat lame) excuse last week, "that I could go if I really wanted but I wasn't feeling keen". The nagging got to much and three missed calls later, I realized that I couldn't endure this any longer and the only way to end this perpetual nagging was to finally bite the bullet and go.
"He was on impressive form at the bouldering wall. I'd never seen Toby climb such steep stuff before."
I'm not sure if I'm being mocked or not, but just in case I'm not, let me just add in the defence of my rubbish climbing rep: I could only climb the steep problem that had absolutely massive jugs on them! :-)
You are most certainly not being mocked. I remember the first time I went to the cave- it was a humbling experience and climbing overhangs for 30mins left me completely wasted. I naively thought I could climb in the sixth grade, but was very quickly brought back to earth. It took me about 3 months to get better!

When I got to Konala Boulderkeskus....
With the post a couple of weeks ago re- violence against foreigners, I was fearing that he'd not ever leave the house again.
